University Tutorial Services

The purpose of tutoring is to assist students in learning the concepts necessary for success in a specific subject area, to improve their learning skills, and to provide a forum for participatory learning. Last year, students at Appalachian got over 15,000 hours of tutoring in one form or another. Students can schedule weekly tutoring appointments in most introductory level courses in the Tutoring Lab in room 208 D. D. Dougherty. Please refer to the short video tour located on www.lap.appstate.edu for detailed instructions on how to sign up for a tutor.

Drop-in tutoring without an appointment is available in other locations on campus for specific topics, such as the Accounting Lab, General Math Lab,  Math 1030 Lab, Physics Lab, and the Writing Center. Supplemental Instruction, a specialized review program, is offered with specific courses. Wes Waugh is the Director of Tutorial Services, and Jessie Fletcher is the Assistant Director and Supervisor of Supplemental Instruction. Tutoring is free to Appalachian students.
